I don't think any reputed Indian bank is going belly-up like lehman and wachovia. So you don't need to worry that much if you have a savings account in ICICI or HDFC. Although you should make it a habit of watching CNBC or any other business news channel every once in while (atleast once a week) just to be aware of the events.

What is happening in the USA is a result of greed and over-zealousness of banks like lehman and wachovia. These bank that are going belly-up lended money to people who were not credit worthy to start with for the greed of charging them 2 % extra interest. Suddenly everyone and his uncle was buying houses, cars and other stuff that they otherwise couldn't afford. This happened all across USA. Finally when it came to paying back the loan, defaults started to happen. And as more and more houses were seized by banks (lender) and put on sale, the prices came crashing down. It's a simple demand and supply effect. As supply became more and more and the demand more or less stagnated or reduced the home price were bound to crash. Hence after selling the foreclosed house, the bank could now only get 1/3rd or 1/4th of the money that they originally lended for this house. This is what led to demise of banks.

There was also the mortgage backed securities (underlying asset being the sub-prime loan) that many greedy banks were betting on. This came down crashing with the falling housing market. ICICI had some exposure to this evil asset and they have lost out almost everything they invested in it.

In India banks lend money taking into consideration the payback capacity of the borrower and they don't have heavy exposure to mortgage backed securities of USA. There is no sub-prime market in India. If you are not credit worthy the banks won't lend you a penny.
