If the bank account was labeled "Transfer on Death" to somebody, then the bank will distribute the funds to the somebody.

If the bank account is a joint account, then one of the living joint owners may withdraw money.

If the bank account is neither of the above, then the bank will freeze the account until the probate judge assigns an Executor of the estate.

The executor goes to the bank with a copy of the death certificate. Those funds are part of her estate, along with all her debts. The estate has to go thru probate and all debts have to be paid before heirs get the assets.

?

Present a death certificate and the letter from the Probate Court naming you the executor.
