Ive never been to Lake Norman. But I'm from the OBX. Growing up here is a love and hate relationship. During the winter everything pretty much shuts down. I can remember as a teenager how much I hated the fact that there was nothing to do here in the winter. The summer weather is great..most of the people that vacation here..not so great. It's really crowded from Memorial Day weekend to Labor day weekend..And the fact that a lot of things close during the winter means you have to try to make a years worth of money during the summer!....But it's not all bad..It's a beautiful place to grow up. We have the best waves on the east coast..and the smallness of the community is comforting after a while. You'll get to know everyone. In my opinion..Move to Lake Norman and visit the OBX right after Labor Day weekend. The rates are alot cheaper, the weather is great, and 75% of the tourists are gone.

Ashley, we prefer Lake Norman... you can drive to the Outer Banks anytime you wish from Lake Norman... living at Lake Norman it has more to offer and we feel it is safer during hurricane season! )^_^)
