I ditched Wells Fargo a year or two ago and now bank exclusively with a good, strong, healthy locally-owned bank in Fargo, ND where I live. The service is friendlier, I get to talk to real people when I phone them up, their service charges are much lower, and believe it or not it actually seems like they actually value me as a customer of theirs. I can't think of a single disadvantage of banking with them. I should have made the switch years ago. As long as you do your homework and make sure the bank isn't in financial trouble (such info is publicly available - start with the FDIC's website) you shouldn't have any problem. As far as I'm concerned, smaller is better when it comes to good service at a bank - just do your homework first to make sure they're stable.
Wells Fargo. I used to use Bank of America, but after THREE INCIDENTS of identity theft, I switched. I'm very happy with WF.
I have Wells Fargo for more than a decade..... and love their service. They are not perfect... but they are human and will make good if they make a mistake.
