Using both tube and DLR/changing at Monument/Bank?

I'm visiting London in a few days' time and will need to travel between Earls Court and Limehouse station. It appears that the best way to do this is to get the district line to Monument and then get the DLR from Bank. On the tube map, it shows Monument as being an interchange with Bank. How closely...

Bank>Monument is treated as a single station because they are connected by pedestrian walkways and escalators underground so you can cross from one to the other without exiting at surface level. The signage you will follow is just like when you change between lines at any other station, so coming from Monument you follow the signs to Bank and then to DLR. The Bank and Monument platforms are approx 450 metres apart. This link seems lengthy to me when I have done it, only about twice myself.

The Oyster Card lets you travel on Underground, DLR and national rail routes within the same zonal fares system. When you cross from Underground to DLR or to national rail without ticket barriers, you don't need to find a way of touching out and then in again because your Oyster Card will understand where you have travelled - there are a few exceptions to this outside Zone 1 where you'll spot a pink, not yellow, Oyster card reader inside an interchange station which you'd need to touch to verify where you changed on your journey, but you don't have to worry about that between Earls Court and Limehouse. Even in the instances where people have to exit through barriers and then in through barriers to make an interchange, the Oyster Card should charge the whole journey as a single fare.

The Bank>Monument route you identified should be the best interchange to get from Earls Court to Limehouse. There is a nearby national rail link from London Fenchurch Street to Limehouse (London Fenchurch Street being just a 250 metre walk from Tower Hill station) but the frequency is about every 10 mins rather than the DLR frequency of every 4 mins, so go for the DLR option

Rachel, you dont have to worry about changing from one train to another because there are simple signs for directions.
Walking from Monument to Bank is a short walk but again there are signs there to help you.

Although they are different types of trains, you still pay the same way. You can buy the one-day travel card or use your oyter card on either. Only tap in at the beginning of your journey and tap out at the end when you get out at Limehouse - unless you have to walk through barriers when you are changing line.
