Outer Banks- Avon or Buxton?

Share |

We're headed to the Outer Banks late August....still trying to find our rental house! We can't figure out where is best to be. From what we can tell seems like Nags Head area is best but we've found alot of places in Avon & Buxton that better meet our needs and budget...is there anything to do in Avon...

They are both about the same. They are only about 7 miles apart. You have a fishing pier at Avon for convenient fishing if you like that sort of thing. Right at the pier you have Nino's. Don't go to Hatteras Island without trying Nino's calzone. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is at Buxton. Really there's not a lot of difference. The Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo area might be a better choice. It's got a fishing pier and is more centrally located between Nags Head and Ocracoke so you can make day trips to either one. Rodanthe also has the entertainment park with the go carts and all the other things to ride. But on the other hand Avon has Food Lion. Hey put 'em all in a cup, shake 'em up and pull one out. You can't go wrong with anything on Hatteras Island. It's really a different beach vacation. Have a good time.
