Hello!

I am from Bangladesh and would like to share the following information about "Muhammad Yunus Bangladesh, founder of Grameen Bank:

Bangladeshi economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank that he founded received the Nobel Peace Prize on Sunday (10th December 2006) for their work to lift millions out of poverty by granting tiny loans to the poorest of the poor, reports Reuters.

Dr. Yunus and Grameen Bank’s representative Mosammat Taslima Begum received gold medals and diplomas at a ceremony at Oslo’s City Hall to applause from about 1,000 guests.

The prize created by the Swedish philanthropist Alfred Nobel comes with a cheque for 10 million Swedish crowns (744,700 pounds) to be shared by the prize winners. The laureates were announced on 13th October 2006.

Dr. Yunus unveiled a bold vision for ending global, reports AFP. ‘Poverty is a threat to peace,’ the economist turned humanitarian banker said in accepting the 1.1 million euro (1.4 million dollar) prize. ‘The frustrations, hostility and anger generated by abject poverty cannot sustain peace in any society in the world.’

The Grameen Bank, which shared the award, has helped millions in Bangladesh extricate themselves from penury through tiny, collateral-free loans, and has been successfully emulated throughout the world over the last decade.

Hope we would look forward to better days ahead in this poor country of ours where the politicians are showing muscle power to 'win' the hearts and minds of the people, like we are living in middle ages!

Thanks for asking about Muhammad Yunus Bangladesh, founder of Grameen Bank and I hope above info would suffice for the time being.
