Is it OK for a Canadian to open bank account in St. Maarten?

Are the Scotia banks linked to the Canadian Scotia banks? Thanks

The "L" Word

You can open an account. Not sure what the criteria is on opening an account on the Dutch side of the island. The French side abides by French/European Union banking laws while the Dutch side abides only by Dutch/Netherlands Antilles rules and regulations.

Yes, they are. Any cash must be reported on your taxes, though. Canada is getting tough with off-shore bank accounts. They aren't 'tax havens'.

Yes, you can open an account there...but I think you will have to pay atxes on them or something since it will be an off shore account!

Hope I helped!
