Me and my family have owned and operated a body shop all my life...and if a shop tells you they will not fix it till paid you need to RUN from them ...and let me give you two points on this...who the heck would pay someone first for something that has so many varibles to the results? I mean it always motivates one more to do a good job if he wants his work to be so good that you will be glad to pay for it...and how can they get burned anyhow...they will have the car...if the bank or the insurance is going to pay...then most shops already know this...delivery of finished vehicle upon payment...most shops have a posted sign...all bills due paid in full upon COMPLETION of repairs...not before...with the added statement..."unless previous arangements have been made with this business"...and this shop must not be a reputable or certified one because if say for instance you are here from out of town and have a wreck,,you come to me and the accident report shows you are not at fault or u have fool coverage and no deductible...I call your agent myself..if an adjuster from there co. does not need to see it first..he gives me the authorization to repair...you sign the estimate and I mail a copy to agent..he sends me a check..at least that is how legitimate shops do it...and alot of times they even mail me a bank draft before I am through and I deposit it and ten days later it goes through...sounds like they want ur money first cause they are going to screw you over ..generic parts or poor work...find another...hell come to me...no bill due until u r happy...that is my rule

Call your insurance company and have them recommend a different repair shop, as the one you are at now may not be doing what your insurance company recommends. A good repair shop will give you and the insurance company an estimate for services, and never go 5% over that estimate without consent (no matter how deep they are into your car). If you have discount insurance, this may be why shops are reluctant to work on your car. Also check with your insurance company's deductable policies, as they may require you to pay, as part of your deductible, at 10 to 20% down payment on repairs.

IF I WERE YOU I WOULD REMOVE MY CAR IMMEDIATELY FROM THAT SHOP AND FIND ONE THAT WILL WORK WITH YOUR INSURANCE CO. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A BODY SHOP THAT WANTED TO BE PAID BEFORE THE WORK WAS PERFORMED. THAT NUTS!!!
