I fish in your neighboring state (Louisiana). And basically our weather pattern has been the same as yours. We are having days the temperature is in the 70's for several days at a time.

That makes the water warm enough for the bass to move to the shallows and closer to the bank.I have been catching bass like crazy out of a boat, but they are in shallow water and most are right next to the bank, usually by a cypress tree that is within a few feet of the bank.

Almost every bass I have caught so far, could have been caught while fishing from the bank.If you haven't been fishing yet, you are running late.

If you can get some days with consistent 70 or so degree weather, that will likely get the water temp up to the "right" range, especially if they're clear and sunny days.

As for water temperature, after it hits that 60 degree mark for a while, fish will start moving and feeding more. The majority of the bass will be spawning by the 65-70 degree mark.

the first real warm day of spring is, for bass, the start for pre-spawn feeding. This means:
1. Bass will be in the shallow water, to escape the still icy cold depths of your chosen lake.
2. Bass are very hungry because their metabolisms slowed down during winter, and are starting to speed back up again.
B: Being so hungry, the bass will eat just about anything that moves.

I hope this helps, and good luck fishing.

Don't overlook using some live bait or tiny plastic worms in back bays with dark bottom. Bass start feeding before they spawn and we've caught good numbers of them in water as cold at 45 degrees. Fish slow and you can get your season started early.
