I currently use WaMu but found they don't have branches in NC. What are some of the major chains in the Charlotte area?

You are right Washington Mutual has only one ATM machine in Sanford, NC. There are several other banks there, like Bank of America, Wachovia Bank, Chase etc. Here is the link that might help you:

Bank of America is based in Charlotte they have branches on just about every street corner.
