Credit unions and small regional or local banks will have the lowest fees for checking
These "big-boy" banks are starting to charge for everything under the sun
Google the banks you are interested in, go to checking, and write down what they have to offer. Keep an eye out for monthly fees, and debit card fees

I absolutely love the credit union.
