Would the police ever ask the bank to get me to call them?

if I had done something wrong? all the numbers seem genuine, HSBC ringing me on 08456032821 and asking to ring 0300 3333 000 to get hold of the police. I dont think i have done anything wrong, but if i had would the police be able to get my number themselves, or surely, my address?

It is a scam. I've seen a couple different versions of this. In one, dialing the number will allow them to use your number to make long distance calls, and you will get the bill.

In another, they ask for your bank information, and then have access to your account.

The only sure way to find out is call, beware of scams though. If you've done nothing wrong you would know it. Try calling HSBC on a public number and explaining what you were told. If you do call that number, give up no personal information. Make it clear that you are wary of a scam. Don't verify any thing they offer. Scammers are much more crafty than you can imagine. At all costs protect your self.

It's a scam sweetie. You can call your local police department to ask this question and warn them of this scam. Just don't call 911, find the local non-emergency number.

Do not do what they say. It is a scam.
In the past I have handled a number of cases where people lost all of their money with this type of scam

I am 97.89% sure that you are getting scammed.

call or go to your bank (Using your OWN resources - phone book etc...) do not use the phone number that they have given to you

do not give out your credit information to some guy on the phone that SAYS he's a cop.

Maybe there was some kind of fraud on one of your accounts. Just make sure it really is the police before you give them any account information.

If the police want you they will come see you. Ignore it..it is a prank.
