Personally, I would go to the Outer Banks. I love it there and spent many summer vacations there growing up. I like Charleston SC also, but I have so many great memories from the Outer Banks.
Why not give SC a try, that way you can say you have tried them both and will have no regrets.
I have spent time in Charleston and its a great city. However, for relaxation and a wonderful beach vacation you will be hard pressed to find a better spot than the Outer Banks. Duck and Corolla are two fantastic destinations. There are many more but these two stick out in my mind as the premier areas of the Outer Banks. If you are not well planned a rental house might be hard to find but i am sure with a little diligence you will be able to find a great place to stay. There are hotels if you choose that route as well. Aside from the beach, there are many activities as well as great restaurants. You will not be bored with a trip to the Outer Banks unless laying on the beach and relaxing is all that you are looking to do. Southern Outer Banks. Had a great time around Hatteras last May and would definitely go back.
