What to do when a bank comes after you after reposession for the wrong vehicle?

Okay, in short my husband and I are dealing with our car getting repossessed (we did this on purpose -- read below for more information). W We were fully aware we'd have to pay the remainder after they sold the car. We had purchased a 2004 Saturn Vue in 2010. After repossession we received a letter...

Holy cow...I'm sorry to say, but you really handled this wrong. You stopped making payments and basically forced a repossession because the bank didn't send the DMV the title? Who cares if you're late registering the car. You should never have canceled your VA registration until after the transfer was complete anyway. If you did that, as long as you could show the DMV that every attempt is being made to get the title, there is really nothing they are going to do. The first thing you should do is always keep your payments current. So instead of fighting about failure to send you a copy of the title (a relatively simple matter), you're fighting with them about incorrect collections, bad credit reporting, etc. And all of this while your credit is now basically wrecked for seven years. At this point, I'd contact an attorney specializing in credit report and collections. It's not that you can really fix your credit. You just really want things reported correctly so the correct accounts are on your history.
