Use one of the commercial banks in Raleigh. Something that is close by the campus and offers low costs for students.
I really like credit unions but they can be very difficult when your family is trying to transfer funds. You really need a commercial bank for that.
A couple of banks to consider include Suntrust and also Bank of North Carolina.
An alternative is an online bank that waives all fees for their checking and ATM - I personally use Charles Schwab but there are a number of others.
