What is a good ground cover for along the bank of the creek in my backyard?

I have about 200 feet of frontage along side a creek at the back of my property. I currently am cutting out all the vines, weeds, small plants, and removing all yard waste along side the creek. The bank is about 8' from the water up to the flat grassy yard, and has about a 40-45 degree slope. I thought rocks...

If it's shaded, ferns and mosses would be good.

Not to be a party pooper but in many states there are regulations that require anywhere from 20-50 feet of undisturbed buffer along waterways. Check it out.

You might look at a short grass like mondo, it will grow on the slope in sun and shade and never needs to be mowed. We put clumping liriope along a slope in our yard, look at that also.

Heather.

Have you ever seen the sea cliff of Victoria Island in Canada. Those massive shoulders are draped in a hardy and beautiful flowering heather that spreads and clings against the wildest of conditions; brilliant with blossoms of yellow or purple.

Creeping phlox, several colors pink, purple, white , just gorgeous, no maintenance, plant and leave it alone.
