Letters on bills can be a bit confusing. Normally when a bill's date is stated it's accompanied by the series letter which may or may not appear next to the date. The first run in a series is always blank, the next is A, then B, etc. The Federal Reserve bank letter appears in the serial number, as well as inside the seal on older bills.
Series letters for 1934 $20 notes only go up to D; F is the FR bank letter for Atlanta and it is not part of the date-series combination.
