Cheaper rent in ok neighborhood - without a doubt. Put the money you save on rent into a good mutual fund and in a few years buy a great place in a great neighborhood.

I would go for cheaper rent in an ok neighborhood. That way I could use the money I'm saving on other things.

Always better to live in cheaper rent place and have some kind of savings rather than living paycheck to paycheck. What if you get sick or something and can't work? Will you have anything to fall back on?

Cheaper rent now. That way you can save $$$ to buy a nicer home in a few years.

123..WAIT!

Don't "break-the-bank" for rent. Go for cheaper and save your money to buy....now is an excellent time to buy!!

The best thing...is if you can afford it...buy!

But if you can't, you have to do what is right for your safety as well as your finances. If it is an okay neighborhood and you feel safe and secure than go that route.

Depends on what you are looking for.
In my city in Canada, I live in a very nice old character house, hardwood floors, 10 foot ceilings, big windows, big yard, garage and all - I just bought it this summer for $80,000.00, because of the neighbourhood. But my neighbours are great! I don't regret it one bit.
