What's a nice area (has restaurants, bars, shopping) near World Bank Headquarters in Washington D.C.?

My husband is attending a seminar in Washington D.C. next month (at 1818 H. Street N.W. Washington). I am looking for a hotel in an area nearby, so my husband can walk there. We would like to walk to restaurants at night, so it must be a pretty safe area. I would like to do some shopping too, so it would be nice...

Hey, I would actually stay in Dupont Circle. It's about 10 blocks from the World Bank Headquarters and is probably the best place to get a hotel in the DC area. I've stayed there before, and it's got some really cute restaurants and boutique shops. Also, the nightlife is always great there.

And if you don't feel like walking around in the cold, you can ride the Red line from the Farragut North Station‎ (which is close to the World Bank Headquarters) to the Dupont Circle Station which is just one block up.
