Ok - first go into the bank today and explain the situation to them in person face to face - honestly it is more difficult for them to say no they cant help if you are sitting there being reasonable - it is human nature that if you ask for help then people will give it. It may sound strange but it is true.

Explain that you accept responsibility for exceeding your overdraft but find the charges excessive and punitive considering they are more than the original amount overdrawn and ask for a compromise. If you are firm but polite and say you want to work with them they should help you.

Next ask for a review of your overdraft so that this doesn't happen again and insist that they change the date on your loan due to a change in circumstance in your employment and your pay date.

I have just recently done the same thing as my pay date has changed from the 14th to the 29th. All my bills used to come out between the 14th and 20th but now come out on the 29th. It is not difficult for them to change but I stress you must be proactive and talk to the bank today.

Good luck.

And yes you can claim again but all cases are being held by the test case that is going on. My advise to you would be to get the bank to agree your request today and then submit a new claim in a few weeks - if you do it today or threaten it today they are less likely to help you.

Angry Hal's advice is really good - Bank should be more helpful. Ring everyone you have Direct Debits with & explain problem of new pay date & ask them to change DD dates. Bank should change Loan payment date but if you have paid loan for more than 6 months you can request a payment holiday of 1 month which should also give you some breathing space.
