Tell me about Comely Bank, Edinburgh?

Share |

I'm thinking about a flat in Comely Bank. What's it like to live there? Are people friendly and easy to meet? Professionals, educated, what? What do people do for fun? Good places to eat? Low crime? How is the public transportation? Will I need a car to go to work at George Street and where would I park it...

A good one bedroom flat in Comely Bank could cost £500 because it is a good area where a lot of professionals and high wage earners live.
There are lots of good restaurants and bars in the area and it has plenty of shops, banks, post office and supermarkets nearby.
You could get a bus (which are plentiful and regular) or walk to George Street in about 15 - 20 minutes.
The last thing you need in George Street is a car, parking, if you can find it, is horrendously expensive.
If you have a car, you will need a parking permit to park in Comely Bank.

You can walk to George Street from Comely bank. Takes about 10 minutes. You'll be lucky to get a 1 bed flat for under £750 per month.

Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is divided into areas that generally encompass a park (sometimes known as "links"), a main local street (i.e. street of local retail shops), a high street (the historic main street, not always the same as the main local street, such as in Corstorphine) and residential buildings. In Edinburgh many residences are tenements, although the more southern and western parts of the city have traditionally been more affluent and have a greater number of detached and semi-detached villas.

Comely Bank is an area of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, United Kingdom. It is south-west of Royal Botanic Garden. It is situated between Stockbridge and Craigleith.

It is the least deprived area in Scotland according to a 2006 Scottish Executive survey.

Comely Bank was the site for one of the first two Waitrose stores in Scotland. There are several other smaller shops in the area including a butchers, a farm store, and a coffee shop.

Stockbridge and Inverleith Community Council is the community council which serves the area.

Comely bank is lovely! Just on the outskirts of Stockbridge, which is historically a rich old hippy area but very 'well heeled'. You won't need to drive to George St, buses down there are good but it is within walking distance of the city centre (albeit up a hill but you can't walk far in Edinburgh without coming across a hill).

If you did have a car you would need to get a permit to park it on the street and the purchasing of one doesn't garuntee you a space. A lot of the flats are rented out to students (ones with rich parents) or young professionals meaning a lot of cars trying for not a lot of spaces.

Fun? Well as I said you have Edinburgh city centre about a 5 mintue walk away with heaps of bars, clubs, resturants etc. Locally there are smaller pubs, along in Stockbridge you have bigger pubs and resturants (inc Pizza Express etc). Stockbridge also has some great charity shops!

The view down Comely Bank from the top is one of my faves in the city!

go for it!

It is an area where you would find professionals. It's a nice area but the whole of that area is parking permits. It's such a pain as you are not guaranteed a space with a permit. The local schools are Drummond and Flora Stevenson for private its fettes college and Stewart Melville. You could walk to George Street in 15 Min's. It's a nice area but if you want a quiet area this isn't it it's quite a busy area. Quite a few bars around stalk bridge.

Comely Bank is a good area, with excellent bus links to all parts of Edinburgh. Crime is as low as in any part of any large city. Many professionals live there. As for friendly, you could be lucky or unlucky with your neighbours.

Its a nice place, Its got the police headquarters and is close to princes streat, it has a department store, right by the police HQ and its quiet so I think its a sort of uptown, people should be educated, Scottish ppl are all friendly so you dont have to worry about that, it has enough bus lanes to get you to almost wherever you wanna go.
