SoCal, I Need A New Bank...Are You Familiar With Union Bank or Wescom?

Share |

I had WaMu (which was great), but then they collapsed and I got stuck with Chase. Now Chase eliminated their Overdraft Limit, which I depended on...but always paid back. I'm now searching for a new bank (because Chase can't help me anymore). I'm seriously considering Union Bank of California or...

I thought you were crazy saying Chase didn't offer overdraft. But I checked their website for personal accounts in CA and they don't. How ASININE!!

I know BofA is the hated bank these days. But I have never had problems with their overdraft. I link my personal checking with my Wes comal savings and they don't even charge fees for pulling money. If you need to link to a credit card, they can do that but there is cash advance fees.

Union Bank is a business oriented bank. It most likely will not provide you with many of the desires of personal banking.

As you know, Wescom is a credit union. Credit Unions are good for some things. But can't provide you with everything (not regulated to provide some services).

No bank is going to be perfect everyday and just because your bank is in place today, it could be taken over tomorrow. There is no way to know which banks are on the endangered bank list.

I had a business account with Union Bank and had some issues so I moved that to Wells Fargo. My personal account is with Bank of the West which I love because they don't charge fees for most things other banks charge for (like cashing a foreign check) and the lines are short (always) and they're open until 6pm. The only two drawbacks are... there aren't a lot of locations around the city and they are closed on Saturdays but the better hours during the week makes up for it for me.

Isn't Wescom a credit union?

I had a pretty good experience with UBOC a few years back. Talk to their account reps and see if they can help you out.

Yeah, Chase is a money-grubbing bank that would foreclose on your grandmother on Christmas Eve, then laugh about it. That's how they do things back East, and it's why they survived this mess.

wecom is a credit union but they do have bank accounts
or rather checking and savings accounts
i would have suggested Cal national but they were closed
by the FDIC and are now part of US bank
which seems like a good bank they have a lot branches
inside supermakets..

nion Bank of CA will more than Likely be consumed by Chase the way Washington Mutual was
so you might want to go with Citibank or
Wells Fargo or
B of A
they're relatively established and you never know in the global econemy of banking
