Should Israel conscript Israeli Arabs to help police the West Bank?

Share |

The Palestinian Authority faces difficulties with catching criminals because Israel doesn't trust the PA's law enforcement and thus restricts its freedom of movement. Additionally, the IDF shows little interest in protecting Palestinians from settler violence. Why not conscript Israeli Arabs to help police...

Many Israeli Arabs have relatives in the west bank.
Israel does not want to create a situation in which an Arab soldier has to choose between the loyalty to his family and loyalty to his country.
Also, tension between Israeli settlers and Arabs is high as it is. Bringing more guns to the situation is a really bad idea.

Most of the Palestinian Authority police are compromised of ex-terrorists from various groups, the Palestinian Authority also when catching terrorists lets them free, called a "revolving door", putting Israeli Arabs under the PA is like forcing them to join a terrorist group. The Palestinian Authority doesn't condemn it.

The revolving door policy is the name for an alleged policy of the Palestinian Authority (PA). Under this policy, the PA would arrest terror suspects in order appease the international community and Israel, but then either release them, facilitate their escape, or move them to very comfortable conditions. The term was used by the Israeli, British, and United States governments.

Good question. But the answer is very simple, you stated "Israeli Arabs", fact of the matter is Israelis usually don't want anything to do with Arabs, whether they are Israelis or Palestinian Arabs. You should see how ordinary Israeli Arabs are considered lower caste in Israel.
