Unfortunately, many things require you to have a bank account, rather it be to cash your paycheck or to enroll in certain programs. That's how our government works. Of course you "choose" to open up a bank account, but if you don't there's virtually nothing that you can do. They want to see how much money you have, watch your spending habits, and keep track of exactly what you're doing. And they want to have the power to freeze your account and take your money if they want it for whatever reason. And just to make sure that the free market doesn't get in their way of keeping tabs on your *their* money, they have passed laws to make sure no one can get into the business of safeguarding your property without their say so--and they're only going to let them if they play by the governments rules.

In short, banking is a necessary evil.

Welcome to America, we're the government, and we're here to help.
