It's called Identity Theft Protection, it is a well known fact that you need to notify your bank before you travel anywhere you will deviate from your normal spending habits. That way, if you drop your wallet in PA and someone picks it up and takes it to NY and starts running it here, there, and everywhere they can stop the activity. It sucks, but most people know that you are supposed to do that.

I have never heard of such a thing. I have BOA and I use it PA, NY, CT, VA when I travel and no problems. Never had to tell them I was traveling just was able to use it.

It is normal for banks to question transactions that don't fit your normal pattern. Your example sounds extreme, but it can't hurt to inform the bank in advance if you will be outside your normal area.
