Power banks use a charger, or not, to store power in some media (battery, capacitors, etc) internally and can transfer that energy to another item (cell phone, pad, etc) at any time without further muss or fuss.

Portable chargers will require some active source where they are used other than what they carry with them. Connection to a car power port, setting up a solar panel in sunlight, etc. will be required at the time and place of use.

A notable exception to this is the solar chargers DIY types are whipping up these days. They do both things, it would seem. They carry the small solar panel to produce the energy and a small set of rechargeable batteries to capture it for later use. I suppose you would have to classify these as hybrid charger power bank systems.

One carries a power source connection or generation circuit with it only and the other carries a bank of storage devices to draw from at any time.

I hope that this will help you understand the difference better. Good luck!

power bank can store power , as it 's with battery inside . If you 're outside and your phone is out of power , then it could charge you your phone at anywhere anytime .
portable charger can't store power . You can only use it at home ,office , or the place where there is plug charger there .

To me, there's not much difference between these 2 words. It's simply a different name for an external battery charger. They both mean a charger that gives power to your phone or a tab.

Solar chargers are pretty expensive and if you are not a backpack avid, I don't think it necessary to get one.

Battery case is also another option but I personally don't like this type as it ruins the designs of a phone it should own. I am using RavPower 14000mAh and it's a pretty neat one.

Power bank is a portable device that can supply USB power using stored energy in its built-in batteries. These devices usually recharge with USB power, and used to charge your mobile phone anytime and anywhere, with a record of your power bank is charged in full.

Both are used to charge your device. But for charge you need a plug point.
For power bank you just need to charge it full and take it with you where evr you go.You
dont need a plug point here. Connect your device with power bank and charge it.
Power bank has larger capacity to hold the charge and you wont run
shortage of power very offetn. With powerbank you can charge your smart phone as well as your tablets
gaming decvices and more.

Anna is right. power bank and portable charger are the same. In America and Canada, people usually call it external battery, portable charger or backup battery, while they call it power bank in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and etc.. BTW, it may damage your electronic device if it's shoddy. you can read an article on http://externalbatteryworld.wordpress.com/2014/08/25/dont-buy-external-battery-before-you-read-this. don't buy a portable charger/power bank before you read it.

Anna

Yes ,agree with the previous answer.
Power banks and the portable chargers is the two different ways to call a thing, they are just the same.
