go to unclaimedbankcharges.com or is .co.uk? You can claim your charges back for the past 6 years.

(-this is the last chance I have to answer as your only supposed to answer once to each question)

O.K. so your on about bank charges.

Overdraft charges - for taking out money you don't have (unauthorised loan)
Unpaid direct debit fees - for spending money you don't have - did the bank spend all your money so your bills didn't get paid?

Don't the banks send you a letter and give you 1 month notice before taking the charges? If you can't manage your money then get some advice, don't waste time with petitions.

It is bad enough people can't manage their money without people like you helping them believe it is out of their hands and they are some sort of victim. Personally I think money management should be taugh in schools so kids know about loans, charges, APR, interest rates etc. rather than having to learn from expensive mistakes.

Until then it's time to take ownership of your life.

People don't get into debt through no fault of their own. I'm in debt and it's my fault but I've just had to curb my spending and sort out my finances responsibly. I just make sure I don't go over the limit and get charged for it. The banks tell you exactly what they charge in letters etc - it's down to you to make sure the money's in there or just don't spend it. Write down everything you withdraw or pay for. It's not rocket science. No I don't work for a bank or agree with their charges completely - just old enough to face up to my responsibilities and deal with it like an adult.

Oh dear.

I'm pretty tired of hearing idiots bleat on about how they are drowning in debt and some fat cat banker is bleeding them dry.

Were you forced to sign up for that loan? did you have a gun to your head when you swiped your credit card in every shop in the high street? Was it blackmail thet forced you to fit that 52" flatpanel digital TV in your council house?

It's time people started taking responsability for their own actions and stopped whingeing about the fact they are loaded with debt because they have the financial savvy of a tomato and just can't wait to own that latest phone / TV / leather sofa / new kitchen or any number of other idiot thing people buy when they can't afford it.

Sure, I understand some people are genuinely poor and they should be helped to get themselves back on track but for all those who have spent themselves into a black hole then stop blaming the world - look at yourself.

And as for the fat cats - you mean the financial institutions who provide you with a free bank account, free cheque books, free debit card facilities, free cash machines, free statements, free counter service, free advice etc etc.? Do they ever charge you anything you have not agreed to? Are you ever charged in error? in so, they will pay you back. If you keep going overdrawn without prior arrangement then what do you expect?

Stop blaming everyone else and learn to take some responsibility or your children will be doomed to repeat your failings.

(for the record, I have been in debt, worked my way out of it and taught my kids better - without crying about it)

***Thanks - didn't know I could add to answers***

Personally yes, I think it's o.k. for banks to charge £35 ofr letters / direct debit charges. If someone took money from me without asking (unauthorised overdraft) then I'd want to impose a charge. The reason for the high charge is to act as a deterrant so irresponsable people are not tempted to take advantage. Sure, it does only cost a few pence to print and post a letter but this is not the point. If your not happy paying for something which costs far more that it cost to produce then I guess you never buy food / clothes / anytthing from a shop.

As for doing the reasearch, I know the banking system in the UK pretty well having worked in financial services (independant) for over 8 years. If only you had spent as much time researching financial responsibility you may not have run up 7K of charges.

If you don't think bank charges are fair then there is a simple soloution. Don't use them! Ask your employer to pay you cash and keep it under the mattress. If this is not practical then maybe it's time to get to grips with your finances.

Bank charges would only be unfair if they did not tell you how much the charges were, when you will be charged, when they are taking the charge out of your account or what you can be charged for. They do all of this but still you run up more and more charges? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I think it's time for a reality check.

Oh, and I'm not srouting (spouting) my gob off, I'm just trying to get you to see it is not he big bad world that is against you, it's just irresponsibility with your money. Not your fault if you've never been taught, I don't know your personal situation and would never judge but pleae stop blaming everyone else for your own self inflicted problems and stop trying to get others to buy in to your delusion with a mis-directed petition.

Who mentioned the loan? Well unless I'm mistaken you can only get into debt with a bank if you have borrowed money from them?

Be it a loan, mortgage, cradit card, overdraft (authorised or unauthorised) etc. etc. you have to have SPENT it to OWE it.

Banks are legalised thieves, and take full advantage of it.
