The first savings bank of Glasgow was established in 1836 as the national security savings bank of Glasgow and was certified under the savings bank act 1835
Between 1837-1840 branches of the bank opened up at Strathaven,kirkintiloch,Pollock,Govan,lo... and Hamilton.
The branches at Strathaven and Hamilton were later severed from Glasgow in preparation for the opening of city branches of sub-offices
Administration of the bank was carried out by a committee of Management
The bank became the Savings bank of Glasgow in 1887

Between 1928-1942 a series of amalgamations took place with the savings bank of Motherwell in1929 . Carluke and Hamilton 1930
Dunoon 1931, Ayr in 1933, Kilmarnock 1937,Lenoxtown1938 and Helensbourgh 1942
Further amalgamations occur ed with Kirkintiloch1960 and Sanquar 1961

Once the West of Scotland Trustee Savings Bank was formed out of amalgamation with Paisley Savings Bank in 1974 three further mergers took place Cambeltown 1976 , Greenock 1976, Alexandria 1978 before finally 1983 Trustee Savings Bank of South of Scotland Tayside and Central Scotland and Aberdeen Savings Bank merged to become the Trustee Savings Bank of Scotland or the TSB
