Geographically wrong. The meaning of the name Trans-Jordan is Beyond the Jordan or Across the River Jordan. It is in fact the East bank of the Jordan river.
The area was first called Trans_Jordan by the British, after receiving the mandate of Palestine, they devided it into two parts, one was called Palestine and the other was named Trans-Jordan which indicated it was everything east of the river itself.
The Original name of the West Bank is Judea to the South (which includes the Judean hills and the Judean desert), and Samaria to the North.
The term West Bank is only used in order to strip the name Judea from the area. If the name Judea was to remain, it would be extremely hard to give the area to someone other than the Jews.
Religious and right wing Israelis still call it Judea and Samaria today. The military refers to it as 'area of Judea and Samaria" and so do all soldiers.
I do not think it is forbidden for Palestinians to call it Judea and Samaria, I think they would simply rather do the same and have a name that gives the area an Arabic character, just like they dont call Jerusalem by its name, but they call it 'Al Quds'.
I think Arabs would rather call the area Ad diffa al Garbiya than Al Yahudiyyah was Samerah. I am not aware if there is a Palestinian given name to the area though.

Buzz I would like to add a correction, It is largely understood today that Salem (pronounced Shalem in hebrew) is not talking about Jerusalem (Yerushalaim) but is talking about one of two places, either Shechem (Shchem), better known today as Nablus, or Sodom (Sdom).
The name Malkizedek is likely to mean "my god/king is Zedek", believed to be the canaanite god "Suduk" or "Sudek". This is very similar to the common hebrew name Eliyahu, which means "my god is Yahu"

No. The original name of this land is Judea and Samaria. Transjordan was the name Great Britain gave to the country situated on the territory of Palestine and inhabited by the Palestinian Arabs. Great Britain created this country in blatant violation of the terms estipulated in the League of Nations British Mandate according to which all the territory of Jordan, Gaza and modern Israel together with Judea and Samaria( what is called in the not- too-well informed media "The West bank") had to be the territory given to the Jews as a Jewish National Home.

Now this country artificially created by Brits is called Jordan, which means that the "Palestinian State" already exists .

No: The land has names that predate Trans-Jordan. Even Palestine, Even Israel, and probably even Canaan.

Palestinians probably call the West Bank "The West Bank", but in Arabic Transliteration. At least Wikipedia confirms this, where it's الضفة الغربية‎, aḍ-Ḍiffä l-Ġarbīyä. Gaza is Gaza, as the numerous clips in Arab that I've seen have demonstrated.

I don't think that Samaria and Judea are names forbidden to them; rather, they are names they don't want to use.

No,
The original name of the West Bank was Palestine
Palestine is mentioned in the Torah for almost 300 times

According to Genesis 21:34
New International Version (©1984)
"And Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines for a long time."
http://bible.cc/genesis/21-34.htm

So the land was called Palestine even before Abraham

The Trans-Jordan was created in the year 1922 east of the river Jordan

http://www.palestinefacts.org/pf_mandate...

During the last 10000 years, the names Samaria and Judea were only used by the Hebrews for something like a 100 years till the 10 tribes were captured by the Sumerians and lost in Persia and India.

Does this answer your question?

No, trans-Jordan is the former name of what is now the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Its name meant "beyond the Jordan", because it is the East Bank of the Jordan River.

The original name of the country is Palestine. Judea and Samaria are ancient names of the ancient Jewish kingdoms that once were in part of Palestine. These ancient names have never been used to refer to these areas for two thousand years. Israel changed the names of the areas, towns and villages of Palestine, using the ancient names in order to make the world believe that we are actually living before the 1st century.

The name of the West Bank refers to the part of Palestine that the illegal early Jewish settlers could not steal at the time of establishing their illegal state on the stolen parts.

Salem Rox My Sox!

Ok, ALL of the land was called Palestine until Pres Truman interfered and changed the name to Israel. But it is still Palestine in our hearts and we WILL get it back!
