I hadn't been to the Outer Banks in 25 years and recently made that ride from Kitty Hawk down to Hatteras. A lot of new homes most everywhere north of Rodanthe and the main drag (12) was busier than I remember it. If Nags Head was considered the "downtown" of the Outer Banks before, then it certainly still is. It's built up more around there, but it's still nothing like a resort. Kill Devil Hills has become busier, too. But as I drove south and crossed the bridge into Rodanthe, the ride to Hatteras was almost the same as it was 25 years ago. Oh, and I noticed that they must've picked up the lighthouse and moved it closer to the road. I didn't make it all the way to the Ocracoke Ferry...wished I had.

So besides more traffic and a few more stores here and there, it's still low-key with lots of empty stretches. Just about the same as it was back then.
