If you can get through six years without any contact from the loan company either from them to you or from you to them then you are free and the debt is wiped.
If it is less time the debt collectors will track you down, come to your home and demand payment, if you refuse to pay then they'll seize your property and sell it at auction for less than it's worth and they'll charge you a high fee for doing this..they may come back again if they haven't raised enough to clear the debt.
If you are in the U.K. you can get free debt help from Stepchange online.

You have to check the statute of limitations for that type of debt for where you live (for instance in TX credit cards have 4 years to file in court. Miss that window and they are left with nothing).

If you get served, go to court. If they get a judgment they can collect, sometimes by garnishing wages.

They will take you to court & sue you. ...and they won't wait a few years, banks take that stuff real serious. Once you are in collections, the paperwork goes to the lawyers.

A warrant for your arrest or a request for sequestration can be lodged in a court of law. Then you owe, Court costs, lawyers costs, interest, penalties, fines and the original debt. Over time it will get worse and worse and even worse.
Peace.

That will never go away until it is settled in one way or another. you won't get to sleep very well until then.

If they sue you and get a judgement against you, they can garnish your wages or, depending on your state, garnish your bank account.
