Usually Bank P.O exams need

Graduation for clerical or Officer (some banks require PG for P.O)
Average 50-60 percent score in graduation and/or pass in SSLC and +2
Exams are now conducted under a common platform IBPS. You should check out the site for more information. Also there are no specific books as such, but I would recommend R.S. Aggarwal for Quant. For english I would say Elementary English by Raymond Murphy

Graduation is the education requirement and I think, there is a specification of minimum 50% marks too. There more than 100 books for preparation. Exams are held when there are vacancies.
