Police response times are pretty good to bank robberies, and if the robbers don't get away before they show up, there is no way they can match their firepower, and most hostage situations result in the eventual surrender or death of the robbers..
So the most successful robberies are ones where a note is handed to the teller, the teller hands over the money, and the robber runs away quickly before the alarm is pressed. A weapon is really optional.
I'm still waiting to see a burglar that actually wears a fedora, turned up collar, and a zoro-type mask (like on those "neighborhood watch" signs I see posted).
Be pretty hard to obtain a functioning M1 Bazooka with working warhead.
