How can I reduce stream bank erosion & the resulting sandy sediment depositing in a lake. Can anyone help?

I have recently moved to France, where I live in a renovated water mill. There is a stream that feeds into a lake (man-made reservoir),which was used in the past to supply the water to turn the waterwheel on the mill. My problem is, that since I bought the mill some 4 years ago, there has been a massive build...

I'm not an expert, but might have 1 or 2 ideas.
How about lining the sides of the path where the stream flows, with concrete, or something that will stop the water from eroding the banks away?
Or, placing a large bore pipe in the stream, so that the water flows thru the pipe, instead of along the stream bed.
Or, would it be possible to divert the stream, so that it flows thru an area where the banks are made of more solid material.
Or, have a word with the locals.
Or, go and see the guy who's responsible for streams/countryside etc. in your part of France.

hay bails on the bank of the strean near the water
a hay bails in the stream or brook every 30 ft or closer
this will stop the sand flow somewhat
