I knew something like this was going to happen. just no luck, shouldn't have moved i guess. Husband called HR Block again this AM when the funds were not in the emerald card. got the number for the bank that the card is thru. He was told there was a red flag on his credit report and then began to ask him...

I am in the same boat as you. Except I did not even have to fail a security question. My refund was suppose to be deposited on Feb. 13, and H & R block has been giving me the run around. On Saturday she said it would be on my emerald card today. And of course! No refund is on my card. I called H & R block once again, and she informed me that my check may have been sent along with several others to the IRS. She told me that basically they have no information on my status at this time, and said the only thing she could tell me was to be patient. BE Patient???? Why should I be the one who has to remain calm when H & R block has done nothing but gave me the run around! Single mom... Bad economy... Low on money.... and remain calm? NO....... I too will never use H & R block. They charge you to file your taxes, and charge you to speak to a representative... then mess me over on my refund! I am far from being calm. I intend to find out exactly where my refund is as soon as I can get through on these busy lines. This is just a big mess!!!!

You say you will never use H&R Block again but it isn't them. THe bank they use is following a government enacted law to verify you husbands identity. He didn't pass the test so therefore the bank was not 100% that this wasn't fraud. Would you rather them send out the money to everyone and lose some of your money because of fraud?? It isn't H&R, it isn't the bank, it is all the liars and thiefs in this country that is leading to stricter and stricter guidelines. Be patient the IRS will send out your refund in 3-4 weeks.
P.S. this would have happened with any other bank that you went throught regardless unless you did IRS direct deposit.
Edit: Like VB said it was not a mistake to leave the rebate off it is what the IRS required EVERY tax preparation office to do. They had to go through and mannually check every return.

The $600 is presumably the Rebate Recovery Credit--this was INTENTIONALLY left off of the tax return after tha IRS asked all prepaprers to stop calculating it. HRB did not "forget it."

As for the credit test, I agree, your husband's issue is the bank was trying to protect him. As a newly minted taxpayer (previously he was a dependent), who knows what the problem is.

BTW, was their a reason he filed MFS (as did you)?

What you describe is that H&R Block decided to rescind the refund anticipation loan you were given. Big difference between an estimated tax refund and the actual amount you may owe.

You need to call the IRS and tell them what they said and have them double check your address. Did you go into an office to file? Curious but if you call the IRS they should be able to get this straightened out for you. But all that sounds really strange for some reason......perhaps they pulled up the wrong info or something.
