For the fairbanks AK area?does anyone know of a good place to do volunteer work around here besides the pet stores or the fire station? Trying to help a friend out who is out there and she cannot find a decent job there and has tried her butt off and hates where she is at...and needs to get out of the house.. good advice only.. rude... |
Hmm, the Food Bank is a good one, they're always willing to take volunteers
I used to work at KUAC/AlaskaOne which is the local pbs and a radio station, they're always willing to take volunteers for different things. You can ask for Tammy Tragis-McCook there, her number is 907-474-1890
I know you said besides pet stores but I know the animal shelter looks for volunteers as well.
The biggest one to check would be United Way of the Tanana Valley at http://www.unitedwaytv.com/voloppdir.html
It gives all of the volunteer opportunities that they know of in Fairbanks, although sometimes their information is a little out of date in regards to the people to contact. But otherwise a good source of information

If you see an organization that you would like to help, but don't see a volunteering opportunity posted by that organization, it's okay to call them and say you would like to volunteer -- they may have opportunities they haven't posted. Also, many organizations are open to your own suggestions for volunteering activities.
