Does it matter to Americans that Canadian Banks now alot of banks in the U.S.?

Whether or not Americans realize it, Canadian banks are global players in the financial market. This includes American banks. Just yesterday a Subsidy of RBC (The biggest bank in Canada) bought out Alabama based ANB, making RBC Centura Banks one of the largest in Alabama. From my understanding some Americans...

I'm an advertising guy in Alabama, and I personally wrote two campaigns for two different local banks capitalizing on that very subject. I didn't write the "Sweet Home Canada" ad, but I wrote some that really managed to effectively rip quite a number of customers away.

However, you're being too sensitive. It's not about being Canadian. It's about a large conglomerate taking over a quality regional bank, and the inevitable sacrifice of service and personal relationship. As a specialist in bank advertising, I can tell you that this is the biggest problem with bank mergers. The acquiring banks sees nothing but assets and branch locations, and almost always fails to take into account the differening corporate cultures. And while fees are marginally lower, as you rightly state, the standards for customer service typically spiral right into the toilet. It's something I've observed time and time again, and so have the customers.

As a result, competitors will take advantage of this uncertainty whether you're based in Atlanta or Toronto. The "Sweet Home Canada" is just convenient shorthand for the fact that as banks get larger, they get more removed from the needs of the customer. And, unless RBC really pays substantial attention to customer service, it will hemorrhage customers.

Guys, I am not American, but you should see it from another point of view, the RBC Ventura Banks will repatriate their profits to the mother company or holding company in Canada, therefore less money invested in Alabama. I agree with you that we are going towards a global economy, but the profits will still benefit Canada.

I think that you'll find that 99.9% of Americans have no idea about this. And of those who do, 99.9% of that 00.1% won't care one bit.

I haven't a clue why we would be upset at this. There's tons of companies and corporations in the U.S. that are owned by someone or something that doesn't originate in the U.S. Don't understand why this is any different, or why anyone would be upset about it.

Where did you hear that Americans are upset about it? A tiny minority of people in Alabama, maybe. But Americans? No one knows anything about this.
