Decent alternative to Bank of America?

Share |

I've had it with Bank of America and want to switch to a different bank or credit union. I just moved, so I'm going to look into local credit unions too, but are there any national banks that don't rip off their customers?. I am sick of Bank of America because the employees are usually rude and twice in...

Heads up warning ... there are places that are worse.

Citibank for example.
I was traveling & needed car service at Goodyear in some podunk city. They did a GREAT job on me, so I applied for the Goodyear credit card. Citibank rejected my application for the reason that I was not local. Not local to what? That podunk town where I needed service? No, not local to Chicago HQ of Citibank, which was hundreds of miles from 99% of the Goodyear places with the credit card applications for their customers.

I have gasoline credit card AMOCO BP chain. Occasionally I am a little behind paying.

I started getting phone calls that my TEXACO credit card was behind in being paid. I do not have a TEXACO credit card. I thought "uh oh, have I been hit by identity theft?" so I called the 1-800 customer service # on the message. It took me a while to get answers when I refused to give out any info they did not already have (my phone #) ... I told the lady who asked for my social security # that for all I know, you are the credit mafia ... I need to find out why you are calling me on a credit card I do not have.

Well it was AMOCO I was behind in paying, but Citibank is computer incompetent ... they had bought out AMOCO credit card.

Then there are banks worse than BoA & Citibank.
They farm out customer service to people who allegedly speak English in Jamaica, India, some other nation, where they do not have our banking privacy laws, and the financial fraud nightmares go into over-drive.

No, bank can't and shouldn't do that. And yeah, I would consider complaining. Even if it didn't do any good, it's worth the effort. I agree, BOA has never impressed me.

I've never dealt with a credit union, but I use Regions. I had AmSouth until they merged, and it has been a completely smooth transition. For the most part, they work quickly and post your deposits by the next days at the latest. And most of the employees have been very helpful and friendly.

you can complain to the office of the comptroller of the currency. They regulate national (n.a) banks. But don't expect much to ever change. All n.a. banks are pretty much the same

web search bank america sucks, you are not alone.
