Can i leave my debts behind and move to spain or will the banks chase me from the u.k?

Share |

I have £8,500 bank loan and £6,600 credit card and have moved to Spain to be with my girlfriend. I have a job now but it only pays enough for my life in Spain, not enough to send home to pay for my debts. Will the bank chase me for it or write it off after a period of time. I have no immediate plans to return to...

if you have no assets like a house. just go to spain and forget the debts if they find you what can they actually do nothing you have no assets they can sieze they cannot stop you working, you can no longer go to prison for debt. So if the bank chase you fro a while what a big deal is that it amounts to possibly one or two phone calls a day. tell them straight they are not getting any money.thats is about all that can happen, they cannot even get a attachment order on your wages because you are not in the UK. All the people who warn you of this and warn you off that take no notice they have not got a clue just do it HASTA LA VISTA I dont think so

to the post above mine wtf have the police got to do with you dumpling it is a civil matter owing money is not criminal I just cannot understand some ppl

somebody said they may sue if you have stated your intention never to pay what are they going to gain you still refuse to pay no court in the world can force you to pay anything if you dont want to so that really is a stupid answer.
Once the companies get the message you aint going to pay. they will write it off and just remember your six years started from when you missed the last payment
and will the person who stated they will come after you with a venegance explain that statement ONE THING FOR SURE TO THREATEN IS AGAINST THE LAW SO AND VENGANCE IMPLIES THAT SO THEN YOU CAN SUE THEM

AND extract their pound of flesh what a load of utter rubbish they have no power whatsoever to extract one ounce never mind a pound.

I don't think that is a wise decision. Maybe they can't reach u in Spain nowadays, but u can't be sure it'll stay that way. Remember the arms of the law are too long, they can reach you wherever you are. And if that time comes, wouldn't it be too embarrassing if the people around you would know that police are looking for you because of your debts back home? They might think that you go to Spain to scape your creditors.

The banks in Spain ARE the banks in the U.K., silly. There are precious few "local" banks left in the world, they are all owned by multinationals.

Rest-assured they WILL chase you (but slowly, to maximize the interest & penalties you will owe), serve you, sue you, and extract their "pound of flesh".

The best way is usually to own up to the debt, but plead poverty, and make tiny payments. As long as you are "trying" to pay them off, they can't sue you; if they suspect you are "fleeing the country with the intention of evading a debt", they will come after you with a vengeance.

And get a better job!

The problem with this situation is for you.
you are living with this every day and it must be ruining your life. I'm not too sure if they can "chase" as you say, why not get in touch with them and tell them your situation.
The fact of the matter is, you have no money, you could also have a look at filing for bankruptcy. A lot of people advise against this, in actual fact, you are bankrupt. Its not the end of the world if you do file for it, you wont be allowed any credit for 7 years, after that the slate is clean. I believe its far better to do something, rather than worry forever.
banks and credit card companies are far too quick to give their loans and cards away.
good luck.

They will find you some stage in life. If you apply for cards over there, bank accounts anything that involves you getting credit search some companies will notify the companies you have debts with. Becareful what you apply for and they may wipe the debt off in 6 years.

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.

hey

i use to work for a debt company and if you've not got any way of them tracing you eg UK mobile number ect or even if a friend or family forwards your address , if you got these things they'll be in touch, if not, then you'll be fine.

hope this helps.

'fraid it's not that easy, I'd bet your British bank already knows where you are, you'll be hearing from them in due course

Just make sure you don't come back as you will face bills of accrued interest
