Can Banks Charge Extravagant Fees on CDs?

At a certain bank that for now will remain unnamed- Suffice it to say that its a national bank, I have CD (Certificate of Deposit). This CD matured on the 3rd. We went to the bank on the 11th, 8 days after. This would have been within the old 10 day grace period, which, they informed us, was changed to 7. Now,...

You opened my eyes.
In the BOA fees I can see the 3% penalty plus $25 fee.
I am also reading complaints by googling: Bank of America cd complaints
On lady was so furious, she let her cd sit another 2 years (they automatically re-new).
Her cd was only paying 0.1 (1 tenth of 1%).
Unbelievable. I smell a future lawsuit by people that don't read the 20 pages of fees when opening a cd. Still $18,000? - that number is simply not right.

Did you have a car repossed years ago?
Did you default in any loan with them?
Is the IRS after you? They may have put a levy on that account.
