Are there any banks that offer checking accounts to teens?!?

I live an Atlanta, GA and I wish to open up a checking account, but avoid the minimum balances and fees. Are there any banks that you recommend? I've tried Wells Fargo, but they have a $100.00 minimum opening deposit fee. (I'm 14 by the way.)

Most banks do have a minimum deposit fee. Also, if you are under 18, you MUST have a parent or guardian on the account with you, since you technically are not legally allowed to sign any contracts until you are 18. What is the general purpose for your bank account? SunTrust, has savings accounts (for example), that have the monthly maintenance fee waived for minors, and the opening deposit is reduced to $25 instead of $100. Maybe you should look into opening a savings account for now, until you are old enough to have a job and need to access your money more frequently.

Charlie: Check on the net for local banks or savings & loan probably by zip code. Then check out their web sites for the accounts, fees, minimum deposit. Also look for youth accounts as some of them are good enough to provide the service for the younger people so they can learn about banking. Hang in there, I do not like W/F either & am stuck at this time through a merger or default of Wachovia.

The minimum balance, fees, etc are the same regardless of your age, and EVERY bank has several account options available. MOST banks have some form of 'free' account available.

At 14, you can't be legally held to a contract, so the bank will most likely require an adult to cosign, so they have someone to chase for any overdrafts.

Most do by 16 with parent co-sign and such. For 14 idk but Chase and other banks (and credit unions) should :)
