I am trying to track down an old bank account from 1977. The bank is Union Federal Savings & Loan Association

The account was opened in 1977 and the last information I have in the deposit book is from 1990. The bank that the account was opened in Baton Rouge, LA. Is there any regulatory government agencies that over see all banks and would have who bought this bank.

If there has been no transactions since 1990, more than likely the account was turned over to the state. Bank accounts become dormant after 7 years and the bank turns the money over.

I don't know how they do it in Louisiana but in Connecticut, the State Treasurer's office handles unclaimed property. They usually publish the list once a year or so in the newspaper. Here, we can actually look at the list online.

I just searched and found Louisiana's list. You can find it here:

http://www.treasury.state.la.us/

Just search for the names on the account. I'll bet you find it there.

Good luck.

Seem to recall a big problem with Savings and Loan banks in the 1980's. Funny that there are no longer any Savings and Loan banks today.
