Mr. Y,

Bank of America is a huge rip off. Our family had banked with them since 1937 (no thats not a typo) and last year we closed all of our accounts (there were quite a few) and changed over to a Credit Union. You get a better interest rate, lower fees and a lot of services don't have fees at all! They can take care of any/all services that a bank does, but they offer lower rates and fees and higher interest rates. They are also a lot easier and more pleasant to deal with.

I have dealt with Well's Fargo in the past, and if it had to be a bank (not a Credit Union) I'd go with Wells Fargo. But as you can probably tell, I'd urge you to go to a Credit Union not a bank! Give a couple of them a call, and ask them questions. I'm sure they'll be happy to tell you what you need to do to open an account there and what their benefits are.

Good Luck!

I bank with Bank of America and there are no fees associated with a checking account or having monthly transfers into it. There is a $3 monthly fee if you want an image of your checks on your monthly statement. Checks are not returned to you. You can use ATM's. They pay you interest earned upon your balance in the checking account.

Wells Fargo also has a good reputation but I don't know as much about it. It would be easier to just call the individual banks, ask to speak to a bank manager and discuss your needs and their fees. Good luck with your decision.
