I am moving to Florida and my current bank does not have any branches there, so I am looking for a new bank. I will mainly only have a checking account. What bank do you recommend and why?

If these banks have branches near you I would use these 2: Wachovia or M & I Bank (might be under the name United Heritage Bank in FL). One simple reason: CUSTOMER SERVICE...it far outweighs the competition. Wachovia has won customer service awards for 6 years in a row. M & I Bank is not as big as B of A, WAMU, Wells Fargo, Chase, etc., so you won't feel like a number there.

I use Commerce Bank. I love them. I get free checks, and I have a 100% free checking account. No min. balance. My ATM card is always free, no matter where I use it. They have a coin counting machine that anyone, customers or not, can use. They are open 7 days a week, 8pm on weekdays, 6 on sat, and 4 on Sunday! Also, you can call at 4am and there is always a person that can help you. Go to www.commerceonline.com to fina a branch close to you!

I like Washington Mutual. They have plenty of offices, Open Six days, an on-line presence and free checking. Only one negative..they have started Check safekeeping where you do not get your canceled check back. As a new account you might be able to opt out and get your checks
