I am not sure this is the same bank, but I found this listing on the fdic website about Howard Savings Bank in Newark, NJ accounts being assumed by First Fidelity Bank. The Howard Savings Bank referenced in this listing ceased to be in existence in 1992.
You don't mention what type of "account" you had (deposit, loan, etc.)
