TCF can be a good one if you have never had an account with them and do not owe them any money. They do however use chexsystems. National City uses chex and will deny you. There are other banks there that may help you as well.

I am a long time employee of national city and can tell you they will check checksystems. You would be able to talk with a branch manager and see if there is something they are willing to do. i have seen that happen before. It will most likely be something where if you keep your account positive for six months they will allow you to get a checkcard. Otherwise I would suggest a more local bank and credit union

You can open an account with Bank of America... BUT ONLY ONLINE. Choose my accesschecking, the free one and you most likely will be approved. I had the same problem, signed up, got the info two days later and was approved. Good luck.
